Day at the Park

One nice Saturday when we had a rare break from soccer, we headed to the park to spend a few hours. We had a great time!

I looked over, and this sweet boy had gotten his sister in the swing and was pushing her. Warms a mamma’s heart!!

Reflections

Braden’s photography entry that won 1st place in his division at his school won 3rd place in the State!

He was honored at a luncheon recently.

Here he is standing next to his entry.

Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady was there! Gracie was excited to get a picture with her. We got to see her do her ventriloquism. Let me just say… she is awesome! She totally should’ve won Miss America!!

Dance Pics

Here’s some pics from the dance recital. She didn’t like the bright flash in her eyes and the first couple are with the flash. She did better after we turned the flash off!

Grandma came to spend the day and come to the recital with us.

Dance!

Gracie had her dance recital Saturday night. She did GREAT! It was a fun night of great dancing and I was so proud of my little dancer.

Here’s some videos of her parts of the dances. She is in the little black, white and red costume. She has a curly side pony tail and a red bow in her hair. She is in the center of the frame in the videos.

I especially love her bow and curtsey at the end :) And when she found us and waved :)

My Love

I took Gracie outside to snap a few pictures of her after she had her dance pictures recently.

I know she’s mine, but I have to say, she is such a beautiful little girl-- Inside and out.

Way to go grace…

I had a not so graceful moment yesterday afternoon.

I was cooking breakfast for dinner and decided to fry up some hash brown patties to go with the meal.

I was also cooking biscuits, gravy, bacon, sausage and shaped pancakes for the kids at the same time. I normally don’t have any problems cooking several things at once, (I call myself a master multi-tasker) but for some reason, it got the best of me last night. I let the pot of vegetable oil get too hot. I turned the heat down, but it wasn’t really cooling even after I turned the burner off. It was smoking up the kitchen and it was about to set the smoke alarms off, so I decided to take the pot to set it on the back porch before I set the kitchen on fire.

Jason had gotten home early and just walked in the door. I asked him to open the back door for me and I grabbed my oven mitts, picked up the pot of hot oil and headed out the door. I was going slow, but apparently wasn’t being careful enough. When I went to set the pot down, some of it sloshed out onto the top of my foot (I was wearing flip flops).

After about 1/2 an hour, I decided that since it was a large burn, maybe I should go to the doctor. (I was a little freaked out about it)  Jason loaded me and the kids up in the car and we drove to the urgent care clinic right up the road.

The dr diagnosed me with a superficial 2nd degree burn. They applied burn cream and wrapped it up for me. I was in quite a bit of pain. The dr offered me a morphine shot, but I figured I was tougher than that. I have given birth to 3 children after all--2 of them without an epidural :)

So, he gave me a prescription for some pain meds and antibiotics and told me to come back in a couple days to have it rechecked to make sure it’s healing ok.

I unwrapped it this morning and took these pics after I washed it.

DSC_0014

It looks SO much better than it did last night. It was BRIGHT red/purple and already had several big blisters by the time I got to the dr. After having it wrapped up all night, it’s looking much better.

I have to wash it and rewrap it twice a day and take the antibiotics for the next 10 days.

Moral of the story: That’s what you get for cooking!

Not really—I’ve cooked THOUSANDS of meals and this is only the 2nd bad kitchen injury I’ve had. (I’ll have to tell you about the first sometime. It was right after we got married and I ended up with a pairing knife in the space between my thumb and index finger…)

Alternate moral of the story: That’s what I get for trying to feed my family something deep fried. I know better than that :)

I put it on facebook last night and asked for prayer and let me just tell you--- prayer works! I’m not feeling like I want to run a marathon, but I’m feeling so much better than I expected I’d feel today based on what the dr said. It’s likely going to hurt for several days and take a couple weeks to heal up. Thank yall for praying!!!

Rainy Day

After we did our egg hunt in the back yard on Easter, Rhett really wanted to try out his new bike that he’d just gotten for his birthday.

So, in a break in the rain, they headed outside to play for a little bit.

Here’s Rhett on his new bike!

Easter

This year we spent a quiet Easter at home. It was VERY rainy and yucky outside, so it was a nice way to spend the day.

I spent a good pary of the day cooking. I cooked 3 big meals that day!! I LOVED it-- and the family sure did enjoy eating all of the yummy food too!
