So I resolved to continue that into 2010. I set a goal to read The Message Bible cover to cover in 2010.
Well, yesterday, February 20, 2012 I finally accomplished that 2010 resolution! (Better late than never, right!)
I'm not going to strive to read another translation cover to cover just yet.
I recently started a new bible study and I'm sooooo enjoying it. So so so good for me. My plan is to do more in-depth bible study this year rather than focusing so much on just reading it straight through.
I can't tell you, though, how much more I love The Word after reading it all the way through. Over the past few years it has become more and more my constant companion as I set out to finish it.
Also, while I will always have SO very much to learn about the Word of God, reading it through gave me a much greater understanding about how it all flows an fits together. Before, I knew stories and verses, but I can now see so much more about the context around certain stories and verses that I never realized before. I love my NIV Bible and it is the translation that I use primarily, but I really enjoyed The Message. It's just so easy to read and understand. I really enjoyed the author's commentaries on the intro page to each book. It helped to set the stage to a deeper understanding of each book that I didn't have before.
It feels really good to have accomplished this goal, but even more to know that I've spent that time getting to know My Creator and My Savior more. I'm thankful for God's Word and that it is living and active and He uses it to speak to little 'ole me! Wow!
