Easter

This year we spent a quiet Easter at home. It was VERY rainy and yucky outside, so it was a nice way to spend the day.

I spent a good pary of the day cooking. I cooked 3 big meals that day!! I LOVED it-- and the family sure did enjoy eating all of the yummy food too!

New Rooms: The Office

So, since the office is now Gracie’s room, you may be wondering where in the heck the office is now.

Well, wonder no more! :)

Remember that little space under the stairs that I used for my scrapbooking stuff?

It was certainly a challenge to get ALL of our office stuff organized into this little space, but it’s working out very nicely. I actually love having my office right off of the living room. I can work in the office without feeling like I’m separated from the rest of the family and I can still interact with the kids while working, etc.

Since day 1, I knew that the key to having this small space work for me, I’d have to keep it super organized. So far, I’d give myself a C+. Some days are better than others in this department. But, I am trying really hard to keep it up.

Plus, this is my hubby’s biggest, and pretty much only, pet peeve (messy office) so he’s been doing a pretty good job of keeping me accountable. I still need to do a better job of caring that this is important to him. Since he is now using the same desk space as me, it doesn’t go unnoticed when it’s a MESS :)

We moved some of the other office furniture into the living room and rearranged things there as well.

So far, it’s working very nicely for us. We certainly won’t be winning any home design awards, but what matters to us is that our space is as functional as possible. And as of right now, we’re doing much better in that department than we were before!

New Rooms: Braden

BEFORE: Boys Room. This was taken when we first moved in.

After this, we rearranged furniture in this room at least 3 times. Changing the beds around was the main thing that we did. The last rearranging we did was right before Christmas when we got them full size beds. It was tricky figuring out how to get 2 big beds in the room with all of their other stuff!

I realized that the dust ruffle wasn’t on the bed correctly, but didn’t have the time or the energy to change it before taking these pics! As a matter of fact, it’s still not right. I have to have Jason’s help to do it, and it’s just not been real high on the old priority list!

Braden is absolutely loving having his own room! Being the older brother, he is now able to enjoy some privileges that were really not possible when they shared a room.

For one, he is now able to stay up an hour later than his brother. They both still go to bed at 8pm, but Braden is allowed to stay up and read until 9pm if he wants to. Also, he is a pretty neat child by nature. He keeps his room clean without much effort. When the boys were sharing, it was always a struggle because Rhett doesn’t care about keeping things neat and that always frustrated Braden.

I’ll say it again… I wish we had done this sooner!!

New Rooms: Rhett

Rhett now has his own room!! He is loving it! Again… I wish we had done this sooner!

There’s still some more decorative items that we’d like to get when the budget allows, and I need to get him a dust ruffle for his bed. But, for starting out with almost nothing for this room, I’d say we did pretty good!

Rhett wanted nothing to do with sports in his new room, so everything in their room was left to Braden and stayed in Braden’s room.

He wanted to go with more of a Rock Star/Rock and Roll/cool bedroom. Even though it’s not totally blinged out and he needs some more stuff on the walls, etc, he loves it!

He was one to never want to be upstairs and also drug his toys downstairs all the time. Now, he loves being able to have his own private space and he plays upstairs in his room all the time!!

New Rooms: Gracie

During all the snow days, we took advantage of down time and rearranged several rooms in the house. I’m going to post the updates one room at a time.

First up, Gracie’s room.

Now she even has her own bathroom! No longer having to share with the boys is a good thing :)

Having her room downstairs has made my life SO much easier! She LOVES it and she actually spends most of her time in her room playing with her toys now. Before, she never wanted to be upstairs alone, so she NEVER played in her room. Instead, she was always bringing TONS of toys downstairs. (Which Mamma usually ended up having to pick up.) Not anymore!!

I actually wish we had done this sooner!

Check back for Rhett’s room-- Followed by Braden’s room and my new office!!

Eight Months

Yesterday marked 8 months on the waiting list for our little girl. I knew the 9th of the month was Saturday, but I never thought about it all day yesterday. We somehow (miraculously!) ended up without any soccer games on the schedule all weekend. Jason let me sleep in (which he always does if we don't have anywhere to go) while he did the dishes and played with the kids. Then we spent a few hours at one of our local parks. It was just a gorgeous day and we had a great time. Afterwards, we chilled out at home for about an hour and then went to church. We had a wonderful, relaxing day and I'm glad I didn't dwell on what day it was for a change! I've been so anxious since we started our adoption process-- I'm just not good or laid back with unknowns and waiting- never have been. The past couple months imparticular I've been really praying differently and really trying to focus on the positives instead of all the bad "what ifs". God has granted me such a peace and I'm really in a much better "place" than I have been since this roller coaster ride started. I've not really shared about it here on the blog before, but since before Christmas, ET adoptions with our agency have been at a stand still. We just found out Friday that things are moving again! We are praying that some of our sweet friends will be getting referrals soon. (Like THIS week hopefully!) I think it will still be a while before we get ours, but hopefully no later than the next few months...??? A girl can dream, right?! BUT-- I'm more content waiting now than I have been since we got on the waiting list last Summer. I've known all along in my head that God knows the day- the hour even- that we will get to bring her home. Nothing surprises him. He's got this and he works ALL things together for my/her GOOD. Even if I don't understand. FINALLY, that truth has worked it's way down into my heart as well and I can say, "It's all good." Doesn't mean I don't have days where I have a heavy heart and cry... It's not like there aren't emotions. But I'm thankful for those days too because it reminds me that God has been and continues preparing my heart to be her Mamma and it seems like I have the sweetest fellowship with the Lord those days. I'm ready to see her face and move into the next phase and I'll be waiting expectantly, but patiently for that day!

15 years ago today

15 years ago today...

Jason called me from Price Cutter (his after school job) in the evening. He had gone into the meat department (where no one was at the time) so he could use the phone to call me in privacy.

My phone rang and it was him....major butterflies. We had only gone on a few dates in the past couple weeks and then hung out at school, but I was already crazy about him.

After a few minutes of "hey, how ya 'doin?/small talk", he got right to the reason for his call.

Him: "So, everyone at school's sayin' we're goin' out." Me: "HeeeHeeeHeee(insert school girl laugh) Yeah?!" Him: "So, you wanna make it official?" Me: "HeeeHeeeHeee(insert school girl laugh) Yeah!"

We vowed to get to school as early as possible the next day so we could see each other.

We hung up and I squealed and jumped around and fell backwards on my bed with a permagrin on my face. I was so excited!

Little did I know, that would be the last time a boy would ask me out. This was it. This was the "official" beginning of forever. He gave me his Sr. ring at school the next day to "seal the deal". :)

Here's a sweet, silly picture of us from somewhere around that time.

Happy 15 years Jas! Looking forward to the next 15!! I love you forever!
