Gracie ran a high fever all day on Friday and a low grade temp most of Saturday. She didn't act like anything else was bothering her, other than being lethargic, which is normal with fever.
Saturday night, Braden had a low grade temp. I gave him tylenol and he was fine by the time he woke up on Sunday morning.
Sunday night, we put all the kids in bed feeling fine and Rhett ended up having a very bad night.
Jason and I were getting ready for bed and we heard him SCREAMING. I'm telling you, I've never heard anything like it. It sounded like something was getting him.
Long story short, he was having fever induced dilerium. That's what the nurse on the phone today called it.
He screamed at the top of his lungs for a few minutes and we were talking to him and telling him we were right there but he was completely unresponsive. He finally quit screaming and he started whimpering and fussing that he wanted to go fishing.
Talk about scaring a mamma and daddy half to death!
My instincts kicked in as soon as he screamed a few times and we realized it wasn't just a bad dream or something. I checked his temp and it was 103.3. We took his clothes off of him and put cool wet washcloths under his arms, on his neck and on his head. I gave him tylenol right away. After about 30 minutes, the fever started to drop a bit. It went up and down for a couple hours. Jason went to Wal-Mart around 12am and got motrin, which I was out of, so I could start alternating.
We gave him a dose of the motrin as soon as Jason got back and in about another 30 minutes, the fever was down to 99. We took him to bed with us and set our alarm to wake up in 2 hrs to give him more Tylenol. We did that and he finally went to sleep after that.
Jason was so upset and worried that he couldn't sleep. He ended up getting back up at 2am and stayed up all night and did paperwork (and the laundry!!). He was going to be prepared if he had another seizure, or whatever that was.
Thankfully he didn't and today he's been ok. I've been giving Tylenol every 4-6 hrs and it's been only going up to between 99 & 100 when the med starts wearing off.
Per the nurse's instructions, I am going to keep him home from school again tomorrow as a precaution since he's still running fever.
Hopefully the worst is over and me and Jason don't take our turn with the fever too! We're WAY too busy to be sick!!!!!
